USDA Forest Service International Programs

Project Learning Tree: http://www.plt.org/

This curriculum provides teachers with the skills to explain basic environmental concepts and guide students to learn more about the environment, how it functions, why it is important and how to sustain and protect it. These trainings have already been brought to the international scale and lend themselves to be tailored to other countries' contexts

Project Wet: http://projectwet.org/

As the name may imply, Project Wet goes a little deeper into environmental issues, to dive into curriculum that is mainly focused on water. As you may know, water is becoming an increasingly controversial resource as we face more polarizing weather conditions year to year. Trainings can be specific to water quality, water conservation, watersheds, etc. All of these trainings explain what the biggest concerns are with water worldwide, and brings the issue down to the country and community level to explain how water functions and how to protect water resources.

Project Wild: http://www.projectwild.org/

This curriculum is similar to the two above in that it emphasizes the importance of natural resources, but it focuses on wildlife and why it is important to conserve resources for wildlife.

All three of these programs can be implemented in a 6 hour training (each) - or they can be broken up in segments, where participants are trained for half the day and then go out into the field to see how the messages in the curriculum can be applied on the ground.

Appropriate Projects: Water Grant

Appropriate Projectsis a Water Charity designed to help PCVs implement small water projects in their village. This organization is filling a crucial void for PCVs, as it is sometimes difficult to find funding for smaller projects that need supplies or technology, but aren't big enough to necessitate a grant. Each project has a $500 maximum, but the money is dispersed quickly and projects can be implemented in a matter of weeks. Check out EWG's own Barbara Trecker and her water project here.

Bike Day

Bike Day is a Day set aside in Ukraine to ride bikes and build awareness of alternative, environmentally friendly forms of transportation.
